Magic Jack Review – $40 for device and unlimited VoIP Incoming and Outgoing calls first year

Magicjack Review -
If you haven't heard of magicJack yet, you should have. It's a USB device that is about the size of Zippo lighter(1 side has a standard RJ-11 phone jack). It costs $40 for the device and first year of service, after that is costs $20 a year.
In short, installs very quickly and works as advertised.
Features:
- Free Phone Service for first year, $20 a year after that - That's incoming and outgoing calls
- Free Voicemail (Dial your number and press *, then 1234)
- International calling as low as $.02/minute (Calls to US and Canada are included)
Expect your first setup of this device to take 10 minutes. When you first hook up the USB device, it automatically installs software/drivers, next it downloads the latest software upgrades for you.
Once complete it'll open up it's webpage so you can put in your e-mail, name and address information(which you could more than likely just make up, however it does use your address for 911 calls). During this process you also pick out what phone number area code you would like. They don't have every state available, but most are.
Once finished, your software picks up your phone number from your account automatically again(this setup is really that easy). And once that is complete you are ready to make calls.
Want to take it to another computer, it is even easier! Install should be 5 minutes tops.
Just plug it in and it installs the software, updates itself and that's it. It brings up the interface with your number you select. Amazing product. (www.magicjack.com)

Frequently Asked Questions:
What are the International Rates? - These can be found on MagicJack.com, or click here.
How many phone numbers come with magicjack? - It is one number per device. If you want two phone numbers you're going to need to magicjack devices. Supposedly, you can change your Magicjack phone number once, for free using the magicjack website - but we personally have not tried and do not plan to.
How much does it Cost? Where to buy? How much per minute? - All of these questions can be answer by going to the corporate site www.magicjack.com
Does this work with fax machines? - Short answer is no, it's not an officially supported function. Longer answer is maybe, best way to find out is try and see.
Does this work in <insert country name here>? - Yes, as long as you have broadband internet and a PC. You will have to pick a US number though.
Will the caller or callee be charged long distance rates? Will I be charged for local calls? - If you're both using magicjack both of your calls are free/unlimited to talk between each other. If only you are using the magicjack only your calls incoming and outgoing are free, local/long distance. If people try to call you from a long distance number, their normal long distance charges will apply to them.
My area code is not available, what gives? - Magicjack does not have all area codes available, this is just the way it is.
Why is magicjack support terrible, all I can do is send e-mails or use chat? - Magicjack is a very simple application by design, chances are if you are having trouble - it's either your internet connection, your pc, and very lastly magicjack. There support system is more than adequate for the cost of their product.
Does my computer have to be on to use this product? - Yes, it connects via USB and therfore requires your PC to be on with an broadband internet connection available.
I need to have internet to use this product? - This product is based on Voice over IP technology, meaning it's sending phone calls over the Internet, yes it requires a broadband connection.
Does this product work with a Mac? - Yes, details are available at www.magicjack.com
Can I only call people that have magicjack? No, you can call anone with a telephone, in fact you can also make calls internationally for per minute fees. US and Canada calls are free - incoming and outgoing.
Are international calls free? Only US and Canada calls are free, if you're hoping to make calls from your US Magicjack number to Korea, for example, you're going to have to pay an international free per minute, these are normally about $.02 and up.
What about skype? - Yes, skype is a similar service. And it's prices have come down considerably in the last year. At the current time, Skype is now charging about $37/year making it slightly cheaper than magicjack. However, magicjack's hardware makes using a regular telephone a breeze. Skype is more of an software app only, expect to be using a headset and microphone sitting next to the computer.

I recently got a MJ it’s about one month now and it’s working perfectly. It sounds very clear wether it’s inland or overseas I have no problem with it. My brother, my Nephews and Nieces all have MJacks for about five years now. A few of my friends also have MJacks and everyone of them has no problem whatsoever. I think that some people have problems with it because they abuse this wonderful service. They should discontinue MJ and return to their Telephone Companies that they had before. They will then speak for hours everyday and pay the huge bill every month as before and then they’ll keep their mouths shut. Some people have nothing more to do than to talk on a phone for hours and abuse it because it’s cheap. They really don’t care and have nothing better to do. My family and I love our MJacks and thanks to the Company for this wonderful service.
Magic Jack is also doing some major league deceptive advertising. I’m surprised an aggressive, young attorney hasn’t started a class action lawsuit against these jokers. They advertise $19.95 a month then they sell the thing for $39.95 a month. I’ve looked at the ultra fine blurry print many times and it says NOTHING about the first year being $39.95. You don’t find out about that until you go into Radio Shack or Best Buy to purchase it. There support staff is a bunch of freaking idiots. I’d like to smack the inventor of this crap right upside his head for using his daughter and her 2 retarded dogs “magic” and “jack” to promote this crap. I’m taking it back right now. I asked my wife to pick it up for me and she came home with a receipt for $39.95. Go Phuq Yurself Magic Jack!
can I can use MJ to call Belgium from India?
hey can someone help, I am trying to figure out how much internet will this use at the end of the month. I tried the customer service with the majic jack people and they didn’t want to answer me. they were telling me this information is internal and not to be disclosed. sounds like a bunch of crooks….anyways i purchased one but did not install it yet. I live in a crapy area where the biggest internet provider is 10gb a months… i know it’s sucks…
anways here was my question to them:
if i talk for 40 hrs in a month how much internet will this use?
can someone please anwser me?
Kamal i guess you can but you’re going to have to buy prepaid minutes first ad some rates are quite expensive though.
btw john you’re retarded because 39.95 is the price it costs to BUY the magic jack, the company has got to make monew SOMEHOW!!!!
Magic Jack advertisements say that there is unlimited long distance in US and Canada.
This is a blatant lie………… It will not work to area code 867, which incidentally is more than 1/2 of Canada. So………. Magic Jack basically is falsely advertising their product.
Where it does work, it works ok, but had I know that I can’t call the NWT, Yukon, or Nunavat, I probably would not have got it.
Your help “chat” will not admit that it won’t work to this area code. Even if you had the Balls to say to customers it won’t work to area code 867 that would be acceptable.
Shame on you for false advertising
i want 2 purchase the magicjack. why can u not give me a good answer on faxing? i do not wish 2 fax ten times a day. only when need. ur answer is buy it and see if it works. wrong answer, can u help? leave me a mess please
I would like to know if magic is free to the person calling from the UK?
Mr John that left the comment on May 5th, You are an idiot! They advertise it for $19.95 per YEAR, not month. Cost of the product is $39.95 and your first year of service is free. It is $19.95 per YEAR after that or you can prepay 5 YEARS(not month’s) for $69.95. I have had the magic Jack for two and a half years now and only had a problem when I needed to update my magic jack. I contacted customer service and the representative rebooted my magic jack with no problems. I guess you just need to keep complaining about your expensive phone bill.
I have a magic jack that i have been using for up to a year now; but am having problem. Some persons keep telling me they hardly hear me, though i connected it to an intercom phone, but what will i do to make it clearer. Also i want to know how to fund it so i can use it to call the rest of the world, i really love this product. It makes life easy for the poor. Finally, can i fund it directly using my Liberty Reserve account? i await you response. thanks
I just bought the MJ on Friday and today is Sunday. There was a problem getting
a number with my area code so the person on chat told me to just choose any number. At first I picked a US number for free and my friend could call on his cell phone without the 1 in front of the number and no long distance charges. Then a few hours later we changed to a Canadian number and were charged $20.96 on a credit card. The reception of long distance calls is pretty good. Our present internet phone would always break up and cut off during a conversation. The only thing is that we need to keep the computer on all day to accept incoming calls and local callers will be charged long distance if they don’t have a good long distance plan. We are planning to cancel our present service tomorrow and try and reap the savings with MJ which could be up to $336 minus $39.95 plus 13 percent tax for the MJ and the $20.96 on the credit card equalling $270 per year.
This is a lie. Magic Jack censors your phone calls and if you make more than 50 calls in one day, they turn off your magic jack and do not refund your money.
